Quick coupled PortaThaw® system safely starts multiple trucks and equipment in the harshest winter climates.
PortaThaw® Cold Start System is a diesel fired coolant heater designed for rapid warm up of frozen equipment.
D‐8 CAT Dozer = 10 mins
warm‐up at ‐40°C
PC‐300 Komatsu Excavator = 7 mins
warm‐up at ‐40°C
CAT 785 Haul Truck = 45 mins
warm‐up at ‐40°C
How does it increase your productivity?
Typical warm up times at ‐40°C are between 7 minutes to 1 hour for equipment as heavy as a CAT 797 Haul Truck. PortaThaw® delivers starting power in under an hour!
Consider the major increase in productivity as compared with traditional warm‐ups that can take a full shift!
How easy is it to install?
With PortaThaw , coolant hoses are installed from the engine to the quick‐coupler manifold on the equipment. Installation of the quick‐coupler takes only about 1‐2 man hours.
How does it work?
PortaThaw® pumps coolant from the frozen vehicle, through its heat exchanger then back into the engine block. Coolant is rapidly warmed, safely bringing the engine up to starting temperature. Unit will then shut‐off heating but continue to circulate coolant and monitor temperature until operator shuts down, disconnects, and starts up engine.
PortaThaw® is one of the fastest methods of asset recovery available on the market today!
PortaThaw® Cold Start System is a diesel fired coolant heater designed for rapid warm up of frozen equipment. PortaThaw® connects up to the Thermex Quick Coupler Assembly. Coolant hose lines are installed to / from the engine block to the Quick-Coupler manifold on any type of heavy-duty piece of equipment. This installation takes about 4-6 man hours.
PortaThaw® pumps coolant from the frozen vehicle’s engine, through it’s heat exchanger, which rapidly warm’s up coolant, then back into the vehicle’s engine block; thereby safely bringing up to a starting temperature. This cycle is repeated until the engine coolant has reached desired operational parameters. Unit will then shut-off heating cycle but continue to circulate coolant and monitor temperature until operator shuts down, disconnects, and precedes with engine start-up.
This process can usually be executed in less than an hour depending upon the size of the equipment or vehicle. Using PortaThaw® is one of the fastest methods of asset recovery today.
In mining fleets, PortaThaw® is primarily used for Asset Recovery. During winter, the term “Asset Recovery” refers to a critical 3 hour window wherein a broken down machine must be restarted and moved away from the pit before it becomes an immobilized mass of cold-soaked pig iron. The traditional method of warming up an engine to facilitate restarting is to surround the entire machine with a parachute tarp and then blow hot air into it from a diesel-fired air heater. This can easily consume 6-8 hours on a good day and most often rolls over to a second shift before the engine can safely start again.
Compact roll cage frame made from 1.5” steel tubing. The unit is equipped with a protective hood that shelters the burner assembly from any immediate weather. A high limit temperature sensor to ensure the unit will not overheat. This sensor will switch the burner off once the coolant temperature has reached 180° F.
Roll cage frame made from 1.5” steel tubing with a 14 gauge steel checker plate deck. The unit is equipped with a protective hood that shelters the burner assembly from any immediate weather. A high limit temperature sensor to ensure the unit will not overheat the engine block of the vehicle. This sensor will switch the burner off once the coolant temperature has reached 180° F. The PT-100 comes with a 12’ pair of prewired jumper cables for 2VDC connections and a 120VAC transformer with extension cord for any generator or shore power connections.
The performance features of this model are identical to the PT-100 however the PT-200 boasts some big upgrades such as; a heavy duty skid frame base with forklift pockets and lifting eyes for various modes of transport, 14 Gauge steel protective enclosure with 3 locking swing doors, 2 each 40’ spring loaded hose reels for equipment hook up, etc. A Flame Control Monitor that keeps a watchful eye inside combustion chamber to be sure the unit is operating safely unattended. In the case of a possible safety hazard, the Flame Control Monitor will perform an emergency shutdown on the PortaThaw®.
